You Have To Start Somewhere

Good Monday morning! What an active weekend I had and I enjoyed every minute of it and hope you did too.  Coach Becky and myself timed a 5k yesterday that was held in the gorgeous Stephen Foster Park in North Florida.  If you are a traveler, this is a definite stop as you make your way down or up I-75 through Florida.  Canoeing, hiking, camping, fishing and one of the most beautiful parks I have ever seen.

Back to timing the race – it was the first time that I helped Coach Becky with the timing – usually I do the registration so timing was all new to me.   While I was trying to grasp everything going on at the end of the race, it dawned on me that this race timing stuff is harder than it looks but I had to start somewhere.  Just like anything worth having in our lives, we have to take the hardest step of all when we do something new – the first step. It doesn’t matter what part of your life you want to improve – it could be finances, career, fitness, weight loss, family, spirituality and the list goes on and on.  But if you truly want to change something, you have to begin somewhere and just do it.

We All Have To Start Somewhere

In our lives we often think we would like things to be a certain way but we never do anything to make the change happen.  For example, we want a job we love or we want to be able to take a vacation every year but we never seem to have enough money.  It is never to late to make changes to have the life you want to have and take those vacations or land the job of your dreams.

Want a new job but don’t have the skills for the industry you want to work in?  Go back to school whether it is college, trade school or online courses, take the first step and get registered.  Want to get out of debt?  Put 10% aside every time you receive money be it from a paycheck, gift or even a garage sale. This will be your contingency fund that will cover any unplanned events that occur in your life. Then get rid of the credit cards and live within your means.  By no means will it be easy but you to start by taking the first step. Weight loss is another wish for many people yet we have junk in our refrigerators because the kids want it then we end up eating it.  We say we cannot exercise because we do not have time yet we know that diet and exercise are key to losing AND maintaining that weight loss.  There is no magic pill or fizzy drink and you magically lose weight. You have to make the changes and eat for fuel and include exercise not only to lose weight but for overall fitness.  Get up off the couch right now and head out the door for at least 30 minutes of exercise.  If you have never exercised before take it easy the first time even if you are just going for a walk.  You want to enjoy this 30 minutes because this slot of time is for you – BUT you have to get up and take the first step outside and start walking, running or whatever you have decided to do.

Finally NEVER GIVE UP.  You may feel awkward the first time you walk into the gym, join a fitness class or start with a diet program. And you know what – that’s okay because you have just stepped out of your comfort zone.  And when you step out of your comfort zone, magic happens 🙂
