Today we are pleased to share Nancy’s fitness story with you. Enjoy!
November of 2009 I was diagnosed with osteopenia in my hip and my lower back and I was 50 pounds overweight.
My mother has diabetes and my eldest sister has fibromialgia and degenerative disc disease and both are overweight. My mother struggled with her weight and difficulty walking for years and my sister seemed to be in constant pain. I decided to take control of my health and get into the divers seat for my life and quit being a passenger in life.
I knew running would be the best cardio and give me the quickest weight loss. I started watching my food intake and making healthier choices.
Running was painfully slow for me. I went to the high school track and could only run 1/8th of the track at a time but slowly increased in distance.
I started a daily countdown and would Announce with flair to me coworkers x number of days until I am 50 and fabulous. The weight started slowly coming off and I list 45 pounds by my 50th birthday.
I then set a goal….a marathon before I turned 51. Successful! I ran the Columbus Marathon in October 2011 my goal was only to finish and I did 5 hours 31 min 59 sec. I developed Illiotibial Band syndrome while training and the opposite ITB went during the race, and couldn’t run for a while. I gained back 25-30#.
Running has become something that is just a run walk for me as I just cannot get back to full steam. I lost 25# and needed something more than running. I recently (about 14 weeks ago) started lifting weights and although I haven’t lost any more weight I have toned and leaned out.
Bodybuilding. com is my new best friend and I am dedicated to losing the body fat % and losing the extra wright in a healthy manner. I don’t want to get on stage for a bikini contest but I want to look like I can.
